Jurgen Klopp has been told Liverpool will not waste big money on players who will not immediately start for the Reds.

Goal.com report that Liverpool chiefs have made a policy decision which means they are not prepared to approve big-money fees for players they do not feel would immediately break into the first XI.

Bayer Leverkusen’s Julian Brandt, Lille winger Nicolas Pepe, Athletic Bilbao’s Inaki Williams and David Neres are all linked with a move to Merseyside.

But the recent disclosures from those within, the club is likely to rule out all of those potential signings.

It is thought, however, that the Reds will need to replace Daniel Sturridge to guarantee their squad is just as strong next season.

Last week, BBC sport reporter David Ornstein spoke on Liverpool replacing Sturridge.

Ornstein believes as well as the versatile forward Klopp is looking for, Liverpool also want a left-back.

He said: “At left-back they need cover, that’s the key area, with Alberto Moreno and Nathaniel Clyne leaving.

“They want a young player who can grow into the role, or someone versatile.”
