Arsenal CEO Ivan Gazidis has said that he prefers Mikel Arteta as a strong candidate to replace Arsene Wenger.
Wenger had announced on Friday that he would step down as Gunners boss at the end of the season, and a number of potential replacements have since been reported.
According to Sky Sports News, former Barcelona coach Luis Enrique is reportedly high on the shortlist but, Arteta is also in the running for the position.
The 36-year-old spent the last five years of his playing career at the Emirates Stadium, with 16 goals being netted in 149 appearances in all competitions.
The Spaniard now works on the backroom staff at Manchester City, where he has just assisted Pep Guardiola in guiding the North-West giants to the Premier League title.
