Barcelona Midfielder Ivan Rakitic Speaks Out On Transfer Decision
Ivan Rakitic has divulged that he considered his future before eventually deciding to remain at the Nou Camp.
The Barcelona midfielder, who was a key player to Croatia reaching the 2018 World Cup final, was a top target for Paris St-Germain in the summer.
The Ligue 1 champions were thought to be seriously considering a £80m bid for Rakitic.
But, after weighing his options, the 30-year-old midfielder decided to continue his four-year spell at Barca.
“I never saw myself away [from Barcelona],” Rakitic told Spanish newspaper Marca.
“There is no other place I want to be”
“There were several issues we talked about, I took those days to reflect a little bit on everything and sincerely I realized where I was.
“It did not take anything special, but I saw that I am lucky.
“I can play at Barca, defend this badge and that is the greatest thing that there is.
“In addition, my wife and my daughters are very happy in Barcelona.
“Things are going really well and there is no other place I want to be. It was easy.
“I feel the respect of my team-mates, the coaches, the fans and the president and that is the best thing for a footballer.”
The former Sevilla and Schalke man has won 12 honors with Barca since joining from Sevilla in 2014, including three La Liga titles and the 2014/15 Champions League.
Rakitic has gone on to make 218 appearances across all competitions, chipping in with 30 goals and 28 assists along the way.
