England Vs Nigeria: Rohr Explains Why Joel Obi Flopped, Hails Brian Idowu
Super Eagles manager Gernot Rohr has admitted that Joel Obi is not in top condition and this contributed to his dull performance in the 2-1 loss to England.
The Torino midfielder was inactive for his Italian Serie A club in their last five games in the 2017-18 campaign because of a muscle-related injury before he reported for international duty.
”Joel today had a little problem to find his game and he is working very hard because he was injured for a few weeks,” said Rohr at the post-match press conference.
”We see that he is not 100 percent fit and if he’s in the 23-man squad he has to work very much like other players also.
”Don’t forget that all these traveling are part of the problems. ”
Speaking on the performance of Amkar Perm’s Brian Idowu, Rohr said: ”For the position of left-back, we also have Elderson Echiejile. Idowu did well especially in the second half, he is fit, he is quick.”
Though Ola Aina and Mikel Agu have been dropped from the Super Eagles’ squad list, Rohr said that they will not be ‘eliminated’ and remain standby players.
