Super Eagles player Obafemi Martins 2018 World Cup Dream has been terminated as he is now ruled out of action for 6 months after sustaining a hamstring injury.
The Shanghai Shenhua forward has spent the last 2 years at the Chinese Super League club, with a total of thirty-one goals being scored for the team during that period.
Martins’ form meant that he still held faint hopes of earning a spot in the Super Eagles’ squad for the 2018 World Cup, but those ambitions have now ended.
The 33-year-old had to be carried off after sustaining the injury during Shenhua’s 2-2 draw with Kashima Antlers in the Asian Champions League.
The Chinese Super League is scheduled to finish in November, and so now Martins faces a race against time to return before the end of the season.
I don’t see the Super Eagles’ forward coming back any time sooner and so Obafemi Martins 2018 World Cup Dream is over. What do you think?
