The truth behind the quote which has sparked fresh claims in the Spanish media that Mohamed Salah wants to leave Liverpool has been revealed.

Salah was supposed to have refused to talk about his future following the Champions’ League final, and from there, several outlets in Spain concluded that was sufficient to link him with Real Madrid and Manchester United.

Given that the presence of the Red Devils in the claims alone should be enough to confirm it was a fabrication, the story seemingly doesn’t bear much more scrutiny.

But in fact, the Liverpool forward gave only one interview to the congregated media in the mixed zone at the Wanda Metropolitano Stadium in Madrid, and that was with the English press.

He spoke of his pride in Anfield and his hunger to win more trophies with the Reds.

He wasn’t asked about his future whatsoever, and so couldn’t have responded on that subject. That question though was directed to Daniel Sturridge, who stood next to Salah and spoke after him.

When Sturridge was asked on departing Liverpool – with his departure finally confirmed on Tuesday – he said: “Now is not the time.

“I don’t even want to talk about all that stuff. I feel like it has been an incredible time and I am not going to talk about next season or anything.”

They doubled down on a story written in March stating he’d had a dispute with Jurgen Klopp, even though that story was utterly discredited by the club, Klopp and Salah himself.

In fact, the player’s agent Ramy Abbas even went as far as to tweet directly about the Spanish newspaper to drop the reports.
